Lady Alyse de Courcy has fallen in love with Lord Braeton, a nobleman in King Edward III’s court and a man to whom she has barely spoken. Fate, however, has decreed her betrothal to his best friend, Sir Geoffrey Longford—a handsome and imposing knight, yet hardly the man she wants to wed.

When Sir Geoffrey is bound in betrothal by his father, he could not have expected the beautiful stranger to win his heart the moment they meet. Nevertheless, the fascinating Lady Alyse has done exactly that, and his feelings for her only grow as he learns more of her gentle yet spirited nature. But Alyse’s infatuation with his friend casts doubt on whether she can ever return his regard and their wedding day is fast approaching…

Will he have time enough to win her love?

First I want to say that there are 3 books and it is all one story. Although the price for all three is around what you might pay for one book, I really hate it writers do that. They stop in the middle of a story, and you either have to wait for the next book to come out, or you have to switch books in the middle of reading. All three of these books were out when I went to read them so this was not as big a deal for me, then if I would have had to wait for the rest of the story. I would have been mad then. I am writing the same review for all three books, so will cover the whole story in my review. I read this because I was in the mood for something emotional. Which this ends up being. This is not going to be for everyone, as this is not a normal romance book. There are 2 guys involved in this romance. If you have read any of the other reviews you know the first book is about Alyse and Geoffrey. Alyse has come to court for the first time. She is in love with Thomas (Lord Braeton), even though she does not really know him, but finds herself betroth to his best friend Sir Geoffrey Longford. Geoffrey sees her for the first time moments before the King announces they are betrothed, and is in love with her at first site, where Thomas does not even really know she is alive. Geoffrey does everything he can to make her come to love him and she does. The first book ends a week before their wedding. Geoffrey has to go home, but says he will be back for the wedding. The second book is about Alyse and Thomas. For reasons I cannot get into Geoffrey's dad and the King void the contract to Alyse and Geoffrey is forced to wed another. They are both heart broken. For other reasons I cannot say Alyse marries Thomas, and tries to overcome her love for Geoffrey. Alyse and Thomas come to love each other. The end to the second book throws Geoffrey back into the picture. They are on their way to France with the princess and are traveling on the same boat. All 4 of them (including Geoffrey's wife) will eventually be forced to be around each other all the time, although their time of the boat they are not around each other very much, for a another reason I cannot say. In the last book they are all together in France. The Black Death hits and everyone starts dying. One of them dyes, leaving Alyse with only one love. I knew this going to happen before I started reading these books, and had to keep myself from peeking to see which one she ends up with. Although it starts to become obvious who you believe it will be, a bit before it happens. The ending helps to make up for the one who dies, and all that they have gone thru overcoming all the obstacles. There is a lot of heart break as well as some jealousy throughout the books. It is a story that will make you cry if you are that type of person. I would recommend this story if you are interested in what it sounds.

Betrothal Book 1 Time Enough to Love edition by Jenna Jaxon Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I read this in two days and only put it down because I had to. This was so well - written, I felt like I was there. Jaxon created deep, true to life characters that could have been authentic players of the past. The scenes were excellently detailed, I could smell the smoke from the burning candles. And the passion was absolutely believable and satisfying. I have already bought the next in the series. From beginning to end, this is a complete novel but the promise of more to come is even better. The depths of these characters it just remarkable. Bravo!
I Loved this book!!! I couldn't put this book down! Betrothals are the worst, but in those times marriages were for Titles, Land or Coin. This book was exciting, funny at times and suspenseful!! I loved it when Lady Alyse would put them in their place, and they did deserve it. Sir Geoffrey is the hot knight that could make any woman swoon, but he does have a habit of putting his foot in his mouth. I loved this book so much I have to find out what happens next, so now I'm reading "Betrayal" (Book 2 Time Enough to Love) and right off the bat I'm floored!!!! Happy Reading
While this book is entertaining, the plot is light in the way of substance. It is mostly about the feelings of Alyse de Courcy as she navigates the feelings that arise from her first crush and subsequent betrothal to a man she doesn't know. Keep in mind she is seventeen years old, so it feels like a teenage love story with feelings developing fast and changing fast as well. The story comes to an abrupt ending and book two in the series picks up where things leave off here. I am planning on reading Betrayal to see what happens next. I hope this next in this series has a bit more depth.
Jaxon did a stellar job writing the characters, setting, and the time period.
And I love this story! The women are portrayed true to historical records, used as currency to better men's standing; a father bargaining his daughter's future as the wife of someone he stands to gain from.

Jaxon's descriptive writing takes a backseat to none. I could see the dining hall, the countryside, the rose arbor, and the gowns they wore. I think I could even taste the ale they drank. ;-)

The writing is witty and intelligent. The characters are likeable. I was torn between the two men competing for Elyse's attention. And I really liked Elyse's spunk. Great characters...

I enjoyed the story so much that when I reached the end (cliffhanger), I immediately purchased the second in the series. Now I anxiously await the soon to be released third book in the series. *note I knew when I purchased this book that it was the first in a series, and as such, it didn't surprise me that the ending was a cliffhanger.
I just found Jaxon in 2014 and I'm just starting this series now. What took me so long??? It's a medieval story about Lady Alyse, who fancies herself in love with Lord Braeton, who finds herself betrothed to Sir Geoffrey. I say this with the biggest of smiles. It is also a continuing series in the way that Gabaldon's stories are a continuing series. Except we don't have to wait as long for the next story. More big smiles here. I simply loved this Medieval set in the 14th century centered around the court of King Edward the III. I normally like my heroines strong willed and definitely of a mind for what they want and there were times Alyse kept jumping across fences but over all I was able to look over this because it works for this story. There is a rhyme and a reason. Yay for finding a new author to enjoy!
